Preceptorship :)

Started my preceptorship this week. I’m on a pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit. The experience has been amazing so far!

It really amazes me how God works sometimes. I don’t think I’ve ever really talked about why I wanted to become a nurse, but I guess now would be the perfect opportunity.

When I was 12 years old I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and it changed my life completely. The one thing that helped me get though the shock of my diagnosis were the nurses who were there caring for me and educating me on my illness and everyday management. This was all at a local hospital. Those nurses made me realize that this illness didn’t have to be a burden; that I could use my illness to help others, especially children diagnosed with diabetes.

Fast forward almost 10 years and I’m precepting at the same hospital where I was first taken to when diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and with the nurse who made the biggest impact on my life when I was 12. My nurse is also a Type 1 Diabetic and the Certified Diabetes Nurse Educator on the pediatric unit.

It amazes me how God works in people’s lives. I am so beyond blessed for this experience!

RN Predictor..

It’s tomorrow morning, but how can I study when I’m so excited I can’t contain myself?!! Pinch meee.

:)

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!

Fair?

In addition to patient advocacy, there should be student advocacy. Sick with another stomach virus and forced to study for a midterm and an exam that will take place tomorrow back-to-back. Did I mention I was just in the hospital yesterday? You would think nursing professors would be more understanding.

Haven’t written in awhile.

Started my last semester of nursing school a few weeks ago. Thought the semester would be slower and easier since its less credit hours than previous semesters…I was wrong. Ain’t nobody got time for eight week courses. Not to mention I have my RN predictor test in about two weeks. So scared. Community clinical is going well and this will be my last week at a local elementary school with the kiddies.

I started applying to Pediatric nurse residency programs. Decided I definitely do not want to stay in Florida. It’s time for a new start and new adventures.

Oh and I started a countdown to pinning and graduation! 94 days until pinning and 96 days until graduation! Wooo!

So awesome!!

So awesome!!

This postcard is now posted all over the SON and hundreds of community constituents have received it! Unreal.

Senior Status

Can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve posted. Summer went by so fast and I spent it working and doing an online class. Now I’m going into week 2 of senior year this week and I already have a ton of studying and homework to get done! For some reason I’m not anxious though. I feel really calm and excited to start this semester. I’ve been waiting for pediatrics and obstetrics my entire schooling. Looking forward to all that clinical has to offer! Can’t wait to post about my experiences in my last year of nursing school. Ahhh :)

Senior year!

School starts in 3 1/2 weeks?!? Where did the summer go?? I need to seriously start studying my drugs ASAP! Ahh :)

My night…

Peak: Got to do 3 baby’s first baths :). So much cuteness!

Pit: I caught a cold. :( Hope I feel better before my next night shift.

CV Tele <3

Love this unit! Floated here tonight and everyone was so nice. Learned how to do an ECG and all my patients were perfect. Now doing daily weights for the first time too. I love learning something new each time I’m at work :)

Fun Stuff

Got floated to Orthopedics last night…thought I had escaped wiping adult butts, but I learned my lesson…you never escape! LOL

Soooo…

The medical mission trip to Thailand was officially cancelled a couple weeks ago. Not enough students wanted to attend! Craziness! The professor said he’s planning another trip for fall break, but that is four days. If I’m going on a mission trip across the globe I want to at least spend a week wherever I’m at. With that, I’m thinking about going on a medical mission trip with my school instead of the cultural class during winter or spring break!…Only thing left to decide is where I should go?!? Hmmm

New watch for clinical and my new job as a nurse intern :) LOVE!
